2015 - Year In Review

Every year we grow. Every year we learn something new. Every year we make so many new friends, and form bonds with couples that transcend their wedding days. Every year we're more proud of the work we've created, and this year is no exception. Twenty fifteen had it's fair share of challenges, but it was also an incredible year of growth, both as artists and as partners. Mindy and I have been so encouraged and blessed this year, and we have so many people to thank for making all of this possible. This thing we call our job is truly, sincerely, so much more than that.

Kristy + Seth

Italian Destination Elopement

Honestly, it's hard to even know where to begin. We have been patiently waiting to photograph our first elopement for a while now, but there's no way we could've expected it to be quite like this. Just five of us (Seth's best friend Nathan was our officiant/translator/captain/tour guide), traveling across the world to see and experience a country so rich with history and lined with a coast seeming chiseled out of pure romance. Vicenza. Venice. Cinque Terre. Portovenere. Four destinations, each with it's own character and charm. A wedding ceremony on the tip of a peninsula, stretching into the Mediterranean Sea. To use the word epic would be an understatement. This is Kristy + Seth's story.

(We're so excited to share our very first wedding film, so make sure you scroll all the way to the end and see this magic in moving photographs.)

Jen + Shawn - Boston Public Library Wedding

Boston, Massachusetts

Sharing this wedding is long over due. We originally met Jen + Shawn over a year before their wedding, at Lauren + Cesar's wedding in Mexico, where Jen was Lauren's Maid of Honor. We spent the day after that wedding hanging in the pool and sipping drinks with these guys, and we knew the friendships we formed on that trip would outlast the flight home. When Jen contacted us about heading to Boston, joining up with the the same crew, and photographing her wedding, we immediately said, "Are you kidding? We'll be there.".

We started our trip exploring the beautiful city of Boston, eating from food trucks  and experiencing Uber for the first time (at the time, Uber hadn't rolled out in Ohio). Thanks to Jen + Shawn's recommendation we ate at Row 34. The lobster roll and crab cake are to die for, we almost ordered seconds. Looking back, we probably should have.

Before the rehearsal dinner, we met up with Jen + Shawn and did a short but sweet engagement session out on Pleasure Bay and Castle Island. Even when we travel for weddings we love to find a time to connect with the couple before the wedding. Even a quick session before the wedding can help take awkwardness out of the equation and allow us connect on a deeper level. There's no doubt this translates on the day of the wedding.

We knew the wedding was going to be one of our favorites. The Boston Public Library was such an amazing venue. Full of stunning light, beautiful architecture, and like the rest of Boston, American history. We headed out to the iconic Acorn Street in Beacon Hill for portraits and then found some amazing light around the library. The courtyard was the perfect setting for the ceremony. As large as the library was, the ceremony still felt small and intimate. Dinner was held inside, and the room was elegant and romantic. After dinner we moved to a different room for dancing, and it very quickly transformed into one the best dance parties we've been a part of. Most of the bridal party was with us in Mexico so we were well aware that they knew how to party, but they outdid themselves.

Happy one year anniversary Jen + Shawn! Thank you again for inviting us to Boston and sharing your wedding day with us!

Best of 2013 // Wedding Portraits

In our last post, we wrote a little bit about how we approach a wedding as photojournalists. We love capturing the wedding day as it unfolds in front of us, but we'd be lying if we said we didn't love the small part of the day when we get to steal the bride and groom for portraits. Each of our couples is very dear to us, and we cherish the time that we get to spend with them, away from the madness of all the checklists, alone for a few minutes, ignoring the responsibilities and just enjoying each other. It's pretty incredible to not only witness two people in love, but to have the honor of translating their love into a photograph, tailoring our style to their unique relationship. Not to mention, there's no better time to really push ourselves creatively. We hope you guys enjoy some of our favorite portraits of 2013.

Best of 2013 // Wedding Moments

Photojournalism. It's a word that gets thrown around so much these days, and many people have a hard time really explaining what it is, or even why they like it. Couples come in to our office all the time saying, "Oh, we love your work, it's just so…." and they can't figure out that next word. Sometimes it's "natural." Other times it's "real." Every now and then it's "good." But at the end of the day, it's our ability to tell a story as it happens that people are really drawn to. It's the moments, the little details, the interactions between family members, and the tear in a groom's eye as his bride walks down the aisle that really matter most. We absolutely LOVE our portrait time on a wedding day (which you'll see in part three of our Best of series), but the little moments are what really make each wedding unique, and what really make each memory special.

Enjoy some of our favorite moments from 2013.

Best of 2013 // Engagements

2013 was a huge year for us. It may sound cliché, but you could probably define our year with one word: Travel. Geographically it was our biggest year yet. We had trips to Colorado to see our friends and do some snowboarding, a trip to Las Vegas for our annual photographer convention, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Hawaii and Mexico to shoot some gorgeous weddings, and an epic trip to Alaska for an engagement session. This job has literally taken us all over North America, and we've seen places that we never imagined we'd see. We're so thankful, and humbled that people would choose to send us to such beautiful places to take photos. With a new year upon us, it's always fun to look back at some of our favorite photos from the previous year. We've spent a few days going back through all of our work, hunting out our favorite images, but also remembering the love and celebration that we've witnessed, and seeing another year of incredible growth as artists. We had such a hard time narrowing down our favorites, so we've decided to do three posts to recap the year.

This is post one of three, our favorite images from engagement sessions last year. Stay tuned over the next few days for more to come.
